James G. Heltzel

Jim was born and raised in Salem and received his undergraduate degree from Stanford University in 1963 and his law degree from Columbia Law School in New York City in 1966.

Practicing law in Salem since 1966, Jim became "Of Counsel" to the firm effective January 1, 2006. Although no longer a shareholder, Jim continues to serve his clients as an employee of the firm.

Jim concentrates his practice in the areas of estate planning and business law. He spends most of his time helping families arrange their affairs through wills, trusts, gifts, family agreements and appropriate business entities. He also conducts an active probate and trust administration practice. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the ABA Sections of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law, and Corporate, Banking and Business Law. He is also listed in The Best Lawyers in America, a national publication.

Jim has served the Salem community as a member and chairman of the Salem Planning Commission, a member of the YMCA Board of Directors, as president of the Salem Rotary Club, as a director of the Marion County Bar Association and as a member and chairman of the Salem Hospital Board of Trustees.

Jim is married to Judith H. Heltzel, who has an independent financial planning practice. The Heltzels have two adult children and three grandchildren.
